Time flies when you are having FUN! Yesterday, was exactly a year ago that I hosted my first Spoken Word Event. Posting the Throw Back pictures on my Social Media channels, just made me feel like sharing the journey with you!
So first of all, I made sure the right artists were in my line-up. Most of the artists are entrepreneurs with companies such as: ‘Zoete Liefde’ owned by Marina de Haan and ‘Anti-Incasso’ owned by Calvin Ceder. Samany Sedney is an experienced Spoken Word Artist and Q. a Creative Writer. Pain.T.Less was the youngest in the group and an exam candidate at the high school where I teach English. Such a very special group of people I met through: Divine Appointment!
I attended The Gospel Music Writers Camp at Dominion Centre in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. There I was coached by George Janssen and recorded different Spoken Word Demo’s. He challenged me to organise the event with other artists who shared the same passion: Poetry! I accepted and was blessed with The Red Room as location and two super talented Gospel DJ’s: DJ Hesroc and DJ David Z. who set the rhythmical vibes. I couldn’t believe this was all happening!
‘Gilleon’S Hope Spoken Word Event’
Before I knew it, the event was becoming a reality! My best friend for life, Yaya was my creative hostess and dear friend, Esther Knott-Macnack who is a creative decoration genius helped me out to set the cozy atmosphere. She has her own company named ‘Queenly Events‘ (www.queenlyevents.nl) and works closely with Graphic Designer Connor Lont. Who designed the flyer as well as the little poem for the guests to take home as a sweet memory!
Just overwhelmed with this new passion for Spoken Word, I felt very honored and humbled to receive all these blessings above. ‘Sharing is Caring’ is my motto in life, so decided that the entrance should be free of charge as I wanted to test the waters and see how the audience experienced the event.
Below you can read a review of the event written by Creative Writer Q.
“Gilleon, you have a beautiful soul and you have the gift to see the best in people and to bring this up in them.
With Gilleon’S Hope & Friends present Divine Spoken Word Event, you give artistic and creative artists a beautiful stage to shine.
During the evening you were the perfect hostess and you managed to bring everyone in your soothing and artistic vibe.
From a warm welcome with a snack and drink to a healthy snack during the breaks, nothing was missing.
The evening was a roller coaster of strong Poems and emotional Spoken Word performances. People laughed, cried and the great audience contributed to this.
After an emotional speech, the DJ’s closed the evening with great music. With a Live Stream on Facebook and beautiful Impression Photo’s made by Shenelva Booij to look back on. The first sold-out Gilleon’S Hope & Friends present Divine Spoken Word was a fact!
Hats off to the organization and thanks for giving a mic, a stage and for getting me out of my comfort zone. Your perseverance is contagious!
I can’t wait for the next edition in October 2018! It will undoubtedly be an unforgettable evening again! In the words of Gilleon: Turn Up!” – Quanita Emanuel (2018)
